The charming villages of Dalry and New Galloway – both two miles away from Glenlee – have a bank and post office, general stores, craft shops as well as good pubs and cafes.

Castle Douglas prides itself in being ‘Food Town’ and boasts 4 different butchers as well as a wide variety of small quality shops and boutiques.

Kirkcudbright – home to many of the original ‘Glasgow School’ of painters – has recently established itself as ‘Artists Town’ and offers a wide selection of shops and galleries.

Wigtown is Scotland’s book town and is the perfect place to browse or look for second hand books.

The larger towns of Dumfries and Ayr are only 40 minutes away where branches of most of the larger chain stores and supermarkets can be found.

Gretna Gateway Outlet Village is just over an hour’s drive on the Scotland/England border.

There is a good selection of cafes, pubs, hotels, restaurants and tea rooms within half an hour’s drive of Glenlee.

20 minutes drive away in Crossmichael is the Plumed Horse which boasts 1 AA Rosette and is also home to the recently acclaimed Scottish Chef of the Year.
